Who What Where

My name is Lynn, and I'm a 28 year old student, designer, and future art teacher from Charleston, South Carolina. Pizza makes me happy. Also, red wine, knitting, cleaning, good green, sunshine, and headshotting angry kids on XBL. I started this website in March of 2008 as a place for me to write a lot about nothing. It's where I share my opinions and vent my frustrations, both of which I have more than enough of. It's also cheaper than therapy. Want more?

F U PMS

I swear, things just aren't working out lately. I was hoping today would be the day things would turn around, but so far, it's not looking like that is going to happen. I mean, seriously, any day that starts out with you running up the stairs holding your bleeding crotch can't go well. It's like an unwritten rule, but more on that later.

This last week has been a bit of an adjustment for me. I spent two weeks house sitting for my parents, which meant I was close to all my friends and was able to go out and do stuff just about every day. It was fantastic. My only responsibility was to have fun.

Then, at the same time I came back out here to my house, where I'm about an hour away from all my favorite people, school started back up. I'm glad to be back in school, but the transition from being close to friends and having zero responsibility to being back in the boonies and focusing on school hasn't been easy.

I blame a lot of that on unexpected hormonal fluctuations, but again, more on that later.

I'm Ambitious? Since When?

Oh jeez. I am so behind on this whole blogging thing. Stuff I planned to do on a regular basis, I'm totally failing at. My monthly favorites and recommendations, I haven't done that since February. That was also the only time I ever did it. Making a new header each month, oops. I'm now nineteen days behind on that one too.

Is it procrastination? No, not really. More like forgetfulness, I suppose. So once again, I'm going to try and force myself to write daily, even if it's nothing more than a stupid rundown of what I did that day. *Yawn*

So what's new with me? Well, I'm still on my break before Summer semester starts at the beginning of June. I've also decided I'm going to get my MFA and teach art. (Did I already write about that before? I don't think I did.) That also means I am going to be in school forever. FOREEEEVVVERRRRRR. But that's okay. I've got more motivation and drive than ever now.

I've also recently accomplished a goal I set for myself a long time ago: learn how to fire a gun. I've been going to the range quite a bit lately, and now I'm just working on improving my accuracy. The .22's were crazy easy, so now I'm playing around with 9mm's, which are slightly more challenging and far more satisfying. Once I find my favorite, the next goal I've set for myself is to get my concealed weapons permit.

So far the theme for this entry seems to be goals, so let's keep that going.

Fresh for April

Click for Past HeadersIs it really April already? Spring is definitely here, and Charleston looks beautiful! I can't believe how quickly March flew by. Trying to balance school and a social life has proven to be pretty difficult, so blogging kinda took a backseat. Somehow I'm managing, though. It has been so hard for me this last week to stay home, but I've had to save my energy, gas and money. Tomorrow morning (or in the middle of the night tonight), my best friend Adrian will be back in town, and we are definitely going to cause some trouble because yesterday was her birthday!

A new month also means a new look for the site, so here it is. One of the last projects I had to do for one of my classes was a Photoshop collage about myself (below), and having just finished that up, I figured making something similar for the new header would be the quickest thing to do. Meh, I'm lazy. Check out the past headers here.

Needing a Kick in the Ass

The Murder WeaponSo here I am, smack dab in the middle of another busy week. I should be working on a project for school at the moment, but I'm moving pretty slowly this morning. Coffee in hand, I figured I might as well have a little bitch and moan before I get to work.

The project we are currently working on in my design class is practically identical to the first project we did. And the second one. Oh, and the next one we're going to be working on too. All four projects are the same format, the same cutting and pasting, and the same gigantic headache. The only difference is which principle or element of design we're supposed to be demonstrating.

We've had two other projects that were completely different, and I enjoyed those. One was to demonstrate value, and the other was for texture. What I don't understand, though, is why four of the projects all have to be the same thing. Why can't we do different things for each? We're supposed to be building our portfolios, and these projects aren't exactly giving us an opportunity to fill our books with a diverse set of work.

Worst of all, the process for these projects is tedious and draining. I'm beginning to think the person that designed the workload for the class is secretly wishing for death by X-acto knife.

A New Month, A New Look

Click for Past HeadersI'm actually a day early with this, but that's because starting tomorrow, I'm going to be short on the available free time again. So here it is, after more than six months, I've finally given the site a face lift. I'm desperate for Spring, so that combined with listening to High Contrast's Confidential ended up spawning what you see. I'm not too keen on the heading and link colors I've chosen, though. That was done in a hurry, so if they don't grow on me, I'll probably change them.

Anyway, these last few days have been awesome because I've been able to pretty much do as I please. It's been a while since I last had a work-free weekend, so I've definitely made the most of it. Things in my life are coming back into balance, and as much as I tend to complain about being so busy all the time, I've realized I miss having things to do all the time when there's nothing to do. Maybe that's why I've become so much more interested in all my hobbies again. Or, maybe it's just nice not having a major distraction around anymore.

Whatever the reason, the creative energy is flowing more than it has in years and I couldn't be more pleased. Going back to school was an awesome decision.
