Just as I was about to throw my hands up in the air and surrender to the universe, I guess it double checked its records and realized I’ve racked up a ridiculous amount of good karma over the last year that I have yet to cash in on. Although the fire on the George Washington could never be considered a good thing, it has turned out to be beneficial for me. The ship’s original three or four days in San Diego have now unofficially turned into one or two months. They’ve been there for almost a week, but the Navy still has yet to give any official word as to what their plans are. The rumors are definitely swirling though. Some people say they will be in San Diego for at least two months and then go straight to Japan. Others say they will be in San Diego for a while and then go up to Bremerton, Washington to dry dock and fix the rest of the damage, and a few have said they are going to fix everything and postpone all their ports till they’re done. All I know is that I’m flying out to San Diego to see my doting husband in a little over a week.
I’ve landed myself in a state of blah. After exhausting myself emotionally on Friday, I still haven’t quite recovered. I’ve been laying low and haven’t felt like talking to anyone, and now I’m just trying to force myself out of this funk. The anger has subsided, but a strange sadness has taken its place. My sleep schedule is totally screwed up, and I know that has played a major roll in my complete lack of motivation.
As for the USS George Washington, I’m sorry I said such mean things about you. I was drunk with rage, and you have a tendency to piss me off. Next time you feel like messing something up, though, how about you chose something that won’t screw me over for once. Handling an international move all by yourself is hard enough when you don’t have idiots losing your paperwork and forcing you into programs that make no sense. At this point I will be shocked if I make it to Japan in August.
23 May
Let me preface this with a whole lot of expletives. SHIT DAMN FUCK COCK-SUCKING SON OF A FUCKING CUNT BITCH!!!!!@#$%^&
A fire broke out aboard the carrier George Washington on Thursday morning as it transited off the west coast of South America, according to a Navy spokesman. One sailor received first-degree burns and 23 others were treated for heat stress.
Yes, that’s right, a fucking fire. Everyone is safe, but I am pissed off because communications are now down. Maggie called me this morning to let me know, and then I got a call from Adam. How was he able to call me? The emergency line, I guess. It was good to hear his voice for the first time in what seems like forever, but unfortunately it was straight to business. He was calling to give me a list of numbers to call to let some wives and parents know that communications are down. Then he said it could be for weeks.
I haven’t gone on any picture taking adventures as planned, but I stayed pretty busy during week eight and never really had to look for something to take a picture of. Plus my balcony has turned into a critter party, so most likely a good percentage of my photos will be of birds and animals from now on.
