This morning I got the urge to do some drawing, so I pulled out my oil pastels and got to work. Before I knew it, several hours had passed, and I had a nearly finished piece in front of me. Granted, it’s a tacky ocean sunset picture, but I honestly can’t remember the last time I started and finished a drawing that I had done for pleasure rather than for school.
There’s still a bit more I’d like to do, but for now, it’s close enough to being done for me to feel like I should pat myself on the back. I have so many unfinished pieces lying around that, for a while there, I was thinking ‘unfinished’ was just my style.
Wow. I’ve been listening to Dub Concepts Radio all morning while trying to get things done, and this track was part of a dubstep mix that was playing for a while. It took me to a really good place, so I thought I would share.
It had been a really long time since I last did any knitting, so the other day I decided it was time to do something about that. Wanting a quick and easy project, I checked out Ravelry and opted for a mug and French press jacket pattern that had been sitting in my queue for more than a couple years, and I had plenty of left over stash yarn I could use.
I figured I would be able to finish it that night, but I was wrong. It hadn’t dawned on me how out of practice I was. My fingers aren’t as nimble as they used to be, and I had a very hard time keeping my concentration.
I’d say a good thirty percent of the time it took me to make the damn thing, if not more, was spent picking up dropped stitches, correcting backwards stitches, and undoing entire rows because I forgot I was working a row with smocking. Toward the end, though, it got easier. My fingers loosened up, and it became much easier to focus.
As much as I’d like to start another project today, I have way too many other things I need to take care of first, and I have a bad habit of losing track of time when knitting. It’s one of those activities that tends to put me in the zone, and hours can feel like minutes. Normally that’s a good thing when I have time to waste, but right now I don’t need to be procrastinating.
A friend of mine is pregnant, so more than likely I’ll make some cute little baby booties next. I’ve already found some really cute patterns.
GPOYW - That would be me in the middle of the dance floor at Suede on Saturday. I didn’t want to go out that night, but because a friend was in town for the weekend, I said I’d go out for one drink.
Well, one drink turned into seven. Then I ended up at Huddle House, and then I was up until almost 5AM pigging out on my leftover birthday cake, watching random Youtube videos and getting even more intoxicated with my neighbor.
Despite waking up about four hours later to take my neighbor to get his keys from our friend’s house, and spending most of the day napping before going out for dinner and drinks with friends, I somehow miraculously felt fine Monday morning. Rarely ever do I catch up on sleep that fast. I’m grateful, though, because I’ve been getting shit done all week like a bawse.
