GPOYW - It had been far too long since the last time I played with makeup and photoshop, so Sunday night I decided to have a little fun.
GPOYW - Of all the photos taken on Friday night, this is my favorite. Also, of all the photos taken Friday night, this is one of the only ones that doesn’t make me ask, “what the fuck is going on there!?” Friday night was interesting.
GPOYW - A photo actually taken on GPOYW, for GPOYW. I haven’t done that in a while. Like the earrings? They’re Stella & Dot.
GPOYW - This was taken on Sunday, I believe, but I could be wrong. The whole long 4th of July weekend was honestly a big drunken blur. And, while Captain Dodd looks pretty lucky to be out on the boat with four of his pirate hookers, there were actually four other guys with us too.
GPOYW - That would be me in the middle of the dance floor at Suede on Saturday. I didn’t want to go out that night, but because a friend was in town for the weekend, I said I’d go out for one drink.
Well, one drink turned into seven. Then I ended up at Huddle House, and then I was up until almost 5AM pigging out on my leftover birthday cake, watching random Youtube videos and getting even more intoxicated with my neighbor.
Despite waking up about four hours later to take my neighbor to get his keys from our friend’s house, and spending most of the day napping before going out for dinner and drinks with friends, I somehow miraculously felt fine Monday morning. Rarely ever do I catch up on sleep that fast. I’m grateful, though, because I’ve been getting shit done all week like a bawse.
GPOYW (a day late) - That’s me celebrating my sixth birthday with a stupid bow in my crimped hair, but check out my awesome Jellies.
Yesterday I turned twenty-nine. It’s not a special age for celebrating, but it marked a significant change in my life and the start of a new chapter, the one where I start over.
My sixth birthday was similar. That picture wasn’t taken on my actual birthday because on June 22nd, 1988, my family moved from Wisconsin to Michigan. Yeah, I thought my parents were jerks too.
It was the first time we had ever moved, and the concept baffled me. I had spent my first few years of life assuming I’d always live in the same house and have the same friends, but I was being told everything was about to change.
The idea of starting over was terrifying, but it ended up not being as bad as I had expected. I got through it, made new friends quickly, and I remember my years in Michigan very fondly.
I still get a little anxious from time to time about what the future may hold, but I’ve embraced the idea of starting over. This is my time to make changes, and I am making plenty. If I want my life to be better, I can make it better, and I will make it better.
Here’s to finishing my twenties with my best year yet!
GPOYW - I took this about a week and a half ago, the day I signed the lease on my new apartment. Having my own place again that’s not an hour away from everyone I know and love has been great so far. I feel sane again! And, as of yesterday, I never have to go out to the “marital home” ever again, not even to mow the lawn or get the mail. That house is now my ex-husband’s burden. Even though I still have a lot of unpacking to do around here, so much lingering stress has been removed from my life, and for the first time in a long time, I’m like, “oh, so that’s what the light at the end of the tunnel looks like.”
GPOYW - Zombie Lynn Forthewin. This picture was actually taken around Halloween, but for a few days before the Rapture That Never Happened on May 21st, I used it as my Twitter avatar.
GPOYW - This picture is from a couple months ago. I was cheating at skee ball and still didn’t get the high score. Instead, I ended up covered in bruises the next day. I think a video of the attempt exists as well, but I’m pretty sure my friend never uploaded it off her camera.
GPOYW - This was taken on my twenty-sixth birthday. I’m about to turn twenty-nine at the end of June, and looking back at the last three years since this picture was taken is a little overwhelming. So much has changed, and that was really one of the last times I was happy before everything began to take a turn for the worse. By my twenty-seventh birthday, I was in my own personal hell, and it wasn’t until a few months before my birthday last year that things finally started improving. I can only hope the year to come has wonderful things in store for me.
