When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
Reefer Madness: Alive And Well In The Federal Government!
Well, it looks like the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2011 has hit it’s first snag.
Rep. Smith, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, responded to press inquiries yesterday about the new federal legalization bill, that will be referred to his committee, saying he had no intention of considering the bill, or even giving it a public hearing.
Members Of Congress Introduce First Federal Measure Since 1937 To Legalize The Adult Use Of Marijuana
Said Rep. Frank, “Criminally prosecuting adults for making the choice to smoke marijuana is a waste of law enforcement resources and an intrusion on personal freedom. I do not advocate urging people to smoke marijuana, neither do I urge them to drink alcoholic beverages or smoke tobacco, but in none of these cases do I think prohibition enforced by criminal sanctions is good public policy.”
Stephen Colbert Could Put Fox News in Bind
In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court nixed federal laws that limited corporations from donating unlimited money to candidates and political causes. Many Republicans began taking advantage of the development by acquiring tens of millions of dollars, and political observers believe it was one of the reasons the party was able to take back the House of Representatives.
Colbert now wants to do the same, explaining he believes in the American Dream. “And that dream is simple,” he says. “That anyone, no matter who they are, if they are determined, if they are willing to work hard enough, someday they could grow up to create a legal entity which could then receive unlimited corporate funds, which could be used to influence our elections.”
So apparently Common got an invitation to the White House, and the people at Fox News are not happy because they’re all a bunch of hypocritical, fear-mongering jackasses. What’s new? I really don’t care what your political affiliations are, but how can any educated person stand to watch Fox News?
It’s like talking to a narcissistic, spoiled child. Someone please make Donald Trump go away. He may actually be worse than Sarah Palin.
The Budget Ax: Why Homeless Veterans but Not NASCAR?
This is just another example of how fucking backwards our nation’s priorities are. Let’s spend over $27 million on NASCAR sponsorships to try and recruit people into the military and then cut homeless veterans benefits by $75 million. Fucking brilliant.
It’s the shit like this that makes me wish I could be more blissfully ignorant.
US Uncut Says Two-Tier America Has To Go
Angelo Mozilo, the former chairman of the board and chief executive officer at Countrywide Financial (now Bank of America Home Loans), also inspires a sense of loathing in Pooley. “[He] took a plea and paid $67 million!” (Mozilo also agreed to a lifetime ban on serving as an officer or director of any public company.) “If this is not an admission of guilt, I am a unicorn.”Even though it’s an interesting article, without “I am a unicorn,” I probably wouldn’t have shared it.
I’m not a big Bill Maher fan. I often tend to agree with him, but I usually just don’t find him very funny, which probably has to do with his delivery.
This video, however, I liked. I thought the pizza analogy was excellent, and though I’ve never seen Secret Millionaire before, I do believe that the major networks, mostly controlled by members of the wealthy elite, are trying to brain wash the general American public into believing we still live in a democracy where everyone can achieve the dream of being super rich and happy if they just work hard enough.
Unfortunately, though, we live in an oligarchy where that American dream is really only achieved if you’re born with a silver spoon in your mouth or are an unethical douche willing to take enormous risks at the expense of everyone else.
There will be a revolution. The optimist in me says so.
