Oh, You Know, This and That
I’ve had a cold since Thursday or Friday, and I’m on my period. I also have a ton of shit to do this week. Normally under these circumstances, I would be in panic mode right now. However, I’m just going to let the cards fall where they may. There’s no sense in pushing myself too hard right now.
I stayed in on Friday night with a terrible sinus headache and fever, and I was supposed to do the Cooper River Bridge Run on Saturday morning, but I was too sick to go. Also, I found out in the middle of the night that a friend had passed away. We had just been hanging out the night before, so that really took me by surprise.
Had I known our goodbye on Thursday night would have been our last, I would have given him a much longer hug. He is definitely missed.
From the other morning in the backyard, which is honestly one of my favorite places to relax, especially when the weather is nice like it has been. Taking the time to appreciate nature is extremely therapeutic, so I usually spend a little while out there every morning while drinking my coffee. I especially enjoy it now that Spring has hit because every day something new is blooming. I tried taking a panoramic shot the other day, but it turned out like shit because it was so sunny and I could hardly see the screen on my phone. It’s overcast right now, so maybe I’ll try again while I drink my morning coffee in a few minutes.
I can’t remember when I took this, but I’m pretty sure it was some time last week.
I’ve been crazy busy since St. Patrick’s Day, and I feel like the only time I have actually spent at home has been while sleeping. Trying to piece my weekend together feels chaotic and wrong, so I won’t even try to attempt putting it in order to tell the story.
Simply put, it was fun.
The weather felt like summer, and so many more things started blooming. Most of the trees started budding and leafing out too. Friends got sunburns, and jackets weren’t needed at night.
Today was the first official full day of Spring, and I am happy.
My poor black car. My poor sinuses. My poor waning sanity.
Over the last few days, nature has blown its load all over Charleston. It’s so thick you can actually see it floating around in the air, and it is all over everything. As much as I talk about how excited I am for Spring, I tend to forget how much I fucking. hate. pollen.
I thought feeling under the weather lately was due to a few too many late nights over the last couple weeks and the inability to catch up on sleep, but today it finally hit me.
Allergy season.
If I can ever manage to drag myself out of the house today, I will definitely have to stop by the pharmacy. While coping with all the uncertainties in my life right now, I refuse to let Mother Nature’s annual biochemical warfare take me out.
Taken yesterday morning. My parents have three huge bradford pear trees in their front yard which started blooming about a week ago. Now if only the grass would finish greening up.
I think I took this last week, but I can’t remember really. Not much longer now, and the trees are going to be green with leaves. Spring always happens way too fast.
It’s a bit chilly again today, but at least the sun is out. And, after all the warm weather we’ve had, so many things are starting to bloom. It’s so nice seeing all the pink blossoms on the cherry trees in February. Spring is almost here!
Overall, the grass around here still looks dead. But, if you look closely, you can see little green blades of grass poking up all over the place. With all the warm weather we’ve been having lately, it’s looking more and more like Spring. I can’t wait for everything to start blossoming and turn lush green!
It’s absolutely gorgeous today, so I plan to take the dog for a walk on the beach with a friend and her dog and then grab lunch outside at one of our favorite restaurants. When the sun sets, I will have a huge smile on my face. My favorite time of year in Charleston is right around the corner!
The temperature in direct sunlight just before noon in February. I love Charleston.
